If you read my previous post from Wednesday about my scooter failing etc etc - spent the last 24 hours at the dealer. I was assured that they looked over everything and everything is perfect. About 25 miles into my 50 mile ride home. The same exact thing happened again. Exactly the same.

I was going, then all of a sudden very slow…..stalled. Wont start they told me to wait till it cools down again that should start up and then go put gas in it which I have done.

I guess my question for all of you here is now that he thinks it's the fuel pump. Why does this have to happen again for it to be figured out?

They are a great shop, but I'm starting to get frustrated obviously

Thoughts on fuel pump: Was it a hot day? Temperature?
Was the fuel tank near empty?

I had fuel pump problems with my Yamaha scooter on very hot days, until I replaced it. Also, fuel in the tank has a cooling effect on the pump, so don't let the fuel level get too low on hot days.

When you turn the key on, do you hear the fuel pump whine to prime the system? Or no?

If yes, I know it's not a direct comparison, but on vintage scoots when the CDI is dying, it can show its dying by losing spark when hot. Magically you'll find spark once the CDI has cooled down. Happened to me after the tow truck had brought me home. I had to replace the CDI entirely. No way to repair.

I would look into lemon laws in the state of New York where you live.

I had a previous experience with lemon lawing a bike. After it had been in the shop for the same repair multiple times and I was deprived of the use of it for so many days it qualified and I took it, the dealer had to buy the bike back.

I didn't mind because I have always been fairly low budget having to sell one before I could get another one and I wanted to try something else anyway despite really liking the bike.

In the other thread you started there was some discussion about reliability. I agree with Bill Dog and another poster that probably the Japanese bikes are the most reliable. Any brand can make a "Monday" bike. Anything mass produced will have a few lemons and if you lemon this one back to the dealer it may be difficult to do business with them in the future...then again maybe not depending on the type of people they are but I think the dealer will absorb some losses with a lemoned bike.

You might want to try something like this,

On Wednesday when it happened it was a hot day yes. Today, not so hot.

I had two lines left on the tank so low fuel light wasn't on yet - but I filled it up after it started up again

I have 7100 miles on the bike. At 500 miles the factory installed fuel pump went and they gave me a new one back then.

Yes, when I turned it on, I hear the fuel pump. I remember when my first fuel pump went at 500 miles when I turned the ignition on I didn't hear anything. Of course now I think when I turned it on the WHIR is not as loud…..but maybe I am looking into it

I did a quick search and found conflicting information about whether or not lemon laws apply to motorcycles in New York state but certainly the Magnuson-Moss act applies.

You will probably need professional help (lawyerup) but it may be worth it to look into it.

I lemoned a motorcycle in California and it did require a Lawyer but I lucked out with a really good Lawyer. It was in the mid 90's so I don't remember exactly the details but I do remember being very happy with the financial outcome and I am a huge tightwad so I think they had to pay the Lawyer as well as me.

Either way it was unreliable and I was so worried about it breaking down on me again it became a peace of mind issue and I had to get something else.

ohh! sounds like something electrical which is always super fun!

something is getting hot and quitting. pump, injector, stator, ECU...

I wouldn't rule out an HT coil, lead or cap either.

this always sucks because it's soooo difficult to track down.

I would do something a little off the wall. Dump some Seafoam in the tank. Maybe ethanol crud is clogging up the works.

If anything, ethanol helps clean up the works. Seafoam is for 2 stroke marine engines. No, there is some electrical gremlins fooling about. I am sorry about this nonsense, RD. I think you should try another shop.

The same thing happened on Wednesday. They replaced the ECU yesterday……..and the fuel pump was replaced at 600 miles, but today on the phone when I was pretty much stranded - the guy at the dealer thinks that is what's happening AGAIN!!!!!!! So pissed. And I noticed a little scuff mark on the side of my bike that def. wasn't there when the tow guy picked it up. I know I am being a baby, I am just not happy right now. After it cooled down I filled up the tank (had two bars left so it wasn't empty, was planning on getting gas anyway before this happened) and rode 25 miles back home and it was fine, but my question still remains……

If it's the fuel pump, why wasn't this picked up yesterday when they went over everything on the bike?? When I picked it up they said they went over everything in detail. If that's the case, why want this picked up?? Thoughts?

Looking into buying a Yamaha, Honda or BMW scooter if this keeps up.

I have ridden a Burgman before…….I love my scoot for the nimbleness which I cruise around Manhattan's traffic. I am hopeful that the dealer is right and it's my fuel pump, the first which failed at 500 miles and the second to fail just 6500 later. Perhaps after the new install, we will be all set. Fingers crossed.

If it's electrical connector related then sitting still might not cause the fault.

I didn't sit still……prob put 30 miles (3 different errands) in today. Of course I was uneasy.

Just for the record friend of mine has just broken down on two consecutive Scooter Rallies and had to use a Breakdown service to get home both times missing the Rallies completely.

His scooter? Suzuki Burgman 400
Does he maintain it? Anything will brake down eventually if not taken car of.

He went to a scooter rally on a Burgman in the UK ?

That was his first mistake.

Mine did a 10 day ride from LA to New Jersey via Wichita much of it in 95 degrees with 52,000 already on the clock.

All good.

Friends don't let friends buy Burgmans.

The fact you have one confirms my suspicions about you

I have an enabler. I also pay people to make me look good.

Rock, Picture someone who has a very attractive partner who no matter how much they promise to remain faithful they can't stop sleeping around.

It's about trust. When the trust is gone it's time to leave.

If they replace the fuel pump and I have no issues, we're good. I'm giving them one more shot.

When I rode a friends Bergman last year, it reminded me of how much I love my scooter.

Yes, I have been patient and kind. It's my nature - one more shot that's it

Apologies for the misspelling…… I was using the voice thing.

Which is why my next new motorcycle will probably be a Honda.

Boring, soulless, reliable.
