Modern Vespa

I rode down to Motorsport Scooters yesterday to pick up a mud flap since the front fender on the GTS doesn't protect the underside too good from water and other types of crud found on our roads.

Had a hard time figuring out what height I wanted it at after taping it to the inside of the fender several times. I knew the lower it was the more protection it would offer, but for some reason I didn't like it down too low. The height that it's at should offer good protection, but might be better if it was down another inch or two. For hardware the best thing I could find close by was a license plate bolt kit from Auto Zone that was made by Bell. It came with 4 nylon bolts with plastic chrome caps. Even with putting some masking tape on the outside of the fender to help prevent paint chipping, still ended up with some chipping on one side. The chip is hidden by the nylon bolt and will be fixed latter this week when I pick up some finger nail polish to touch it up. Installation didn't take too long, about ½ an hour including the time to remove and re-install the front wheel.

Looks really nice...I used 3m plastic guard on mine to protect just behind the front wheel....I used to have a pic up but I think I deleted it.

Did I leave masking tape around your sidestand mount?,

I thought it might be holding that wire up and out of the way, so I just left it there.... Should I remove?

Its a problem all over the country! Hahhaha... might take it off before my ride home today, maybe gain a slight increase in performance? Ha!

Ditch the tape!, my beleif is that there is a fixture during painting that prevents the area around the tape to not get painted, so they mask it and shoot the color there after it comes off the assembly line. So that tape is from italy. just guessing. DR

I had the same mudflap, it is made of plastic and it became very brittle and fell off after 2 weeks . Does anyone know if someone makes them in rubber ? Thanks. Brian.

It looks like (last picture) your missing the clear plastic tube for battery overflow. It comes out the bottom through the rubber grommet.

The vent tube is running out the back and dumps out on the righ side somewhere... Dont remember where, but somewhere...

i purposly reroute the tube elsewhere so it dont hang down, in addition, i also put the positive cable in reverse on the battery so it dont rub into the metal. piaggio put a peice of tape on the metal but the cable will cut through it, in fact it did on my gts and blew the fusible link. the hose reroute is for looks. it still vents plenty. the battery that come with the gts is lame. dr

if you crack your flap maybe that clear urethane spray stuff would be good. any thoughts? dr

Watch your front mud flap. I installed a nice looking, very good quality one on my GTS. After the first ride with the flap installed I put the scooter on the lift to check out the front newly installed flap........only to find that at speed it would ride up against the bottom of the scooter and had removed some paint clear down to the metal. Removed it and installed a rigid (non-flexing) fender extender that seems to be working ok.

I was waiting for you to chime in Randy as I remembered you having issue with the one you installed. I was dissapointed as it really looked great.

I'd love to see a picture of your latest fix. The extender sounds like a good solution.
