In your language is it appropriate to say "'lovely bird, she is."
I think scooters and and ladies complement each other well. Both look great. |

"They do say Britain and America are two countries separated by the Atlantic Ocean, and it's true. No, they say, "two countries separated by a common language," that's the line; it's an Oscar Wilde line, I think. And we do pronounce things in a different way, like you say "caterpillar" and we say "caterpillar," and... You say "aluminum" and we say "aluminium." You say, "centrifugal" and we say "centrifugal." You say, "leisure" and we say "lizuray." You say "baysil" and we say "bahsil." You say "'erbs" and we say "herbs," because there's a f***ing "H" in it... But you spell through THRU, and I'm with you on that, 'cause we spell it "THRUFF," and that's trying to cheat at Scrabble."

Not an unlikely claim.
The Queen is decended from both, as is anyone who can claim decent from Charles II or James II. The royal line claim sovereignty from the later, but the former had so many mistresses there is a significant proportion of Britons decended from Edward I and Robert I. For example, Diana Spencer, subsequently Princess Diana was decended from Charles II through one of his mistresses, as was Charles, although he could also show decent through the legitimate James II line. |

Smorris -> Martha Sheryl Fuson -> Hamer Brunner Fuson -> Otho Francis Fuson -> David Fuson -> George Fuson -> Isiaih Fuson -> Hannah Bates -> John Bates -> Susannah Fleming (My 2nd cousing 8 times removed comes in at this point with great historical documentation - Dolley Madison) -> Charles Fleming -> John Fleming -> Captain Alexander Fleming (showed up here in the Colonies somewhere between 1627 and 1659, but believed to be 1632, setting up a dry good shop in Virginia. This is only 20 years after the settlement of Jamestown.) -> Lord John Fleming -> and from there, numerous historical record of all the Fleming Lords of Wigton, Stewarts, Stuart, Douglas, Fitzalan, deClare (as in "County Clare, Ireland - my daughter is "Claire" ), Bruce, etc, through pretty much every king and queen of Scotland, plus some from England (prior to all those Henrys), Wales (Morris is Welsh for "moorish", a derogitory term of those having their family lineage contaminated by the invading Moors) and Normandy, going back 1500+ years to way beyond possible accuracy. (but none of them damn Plantaganets! ) Not a lot of Irish other than going back to the first Scots coming from Eire.
Robert "The" was my 22rd great grandfather, and Edward II is my 21st or 22nd great grandfather (still haven't gone back and filled in James IV and prior, although there is a lot of the same antecedents), William the Conqueror was my 30th... And then the other grandmother's side goes back to 1600s Hebridies Scotland, and other grandmother to 1600s Scotland (got a distant cousin running the tourists through the family MacLaine castle on the Isle of Mull, if I remember.) So, if about 50 million people in line for sovereignty were to suddenly fall over dead, *maybe* someone would come knocking on my door. But I'm not counting on it. My wife's famiily's first American came here in the late 1600s, and was the first Mennonite minister in the western hemisphere. Please do not confuse any of the above as bragging. I'm very curious about my family history, and have the advantage of several of my ancestors having written published works documenting this information. I'd imagine many Americans who have had family here for dozens of generations have a similar background if they knew where to look. I knew about the royal connection since I was a kid, but I actually went looking for a briggand or scallywag. My grandmother was a "Daughter's of the Revolution" member, so my daughter's would qualify. But what I was really looking for was a "Sons of the Confederacy" connection. I just think of myself as a 10th generation American farm boy. Sorry for the hijack, watteee! |
