Someone pointed me at this video from the Mods vs. Rockers rally in San Francisco last Saturday. This is a video of the "takeover" of the Stockton Tunnel. I'm actually in it -- twice -- but only for a second or so.

Some perspective.... today is the first time (after over 1100 miles on my scooter) that I rode next to another scooter!

You obviously have some serious helmet laws there. Less than 1/3 of the riders I see out here in MN wear any kind of head protection.

Not a matter of "serious" You DON'T have a choice in CA. You wear a helmet.

Riding without a helmet in California is (as far as I've ever seen) virtually nonexistent.

My dealer (of Vespas as opposed to the other addiction dealers) gave me a full face helmet with the purchase of my GTS. It's that important and absolute here in California

I don't like being told what to do but I have seen enough accidents where a full face helmet has at least saved a face if not a life. Call it scared streight or what ever but I will only wear a full face helmet or not ride no matter what the law says.

All that 2-stroke smoke in the tunnel must have been... aromatic... and loud! What fun.

I was gasping for air by the time I got back out to the mouth of the tunnel. And yes, the sound was deafening. The MCs had straight pipes and were smoking their tires, the two-strokes were blatting, and every single person was bleeping their horn the whole time. It was genuinely terrifying, in fact.

Meanwhile, I was gliding along on what for all practical purposes sounds like a sewing machine.

We have a Mods & Rockers film fest here in LA, but it doesn't look nearly as fun as this.

I live near the vermont /Mass border. Sorta scooter rally no man's land. Niagara is a good 5-6 hours from here. Doable, but with some planning.
Might hit the rally in Montreal.
