Someone told me about this trick, and it works great every time.
When you remove your gas cap, raise the rear of your bucket and wedge it with the Gas Cap to create a crack. If you get a spill, it won't go into your bucket.

Place the nozzle all the way down. it should auto shut off. Dont try to top it off.

I tried this today, and on the first click it stopped.
But I aldo did the Gas Cap wege as well for just in case.

Duh, what a great trick. Don't know how many times I filled up on the way home from grocery store. Gasoline on my beer ruins my day!
Yep, I've been seen scrubbing my beer cans out on the driveway when I get home. Neighbors think it's pretty much my normal thing. Of course the Harley guys would just suck it up.

In the UK there is no metal bend on the hose at a petrol station. I go to the other side of the scoot and refuel. The fuel can end up on the floor as your filling up.

Here in the UK sorry petrol stations ive visited don't make it easy. If you have never filled up any vehicle before your on your own. You pull in right look at the pumps black and maybe two green ahhh yes green unleaded. ok so the hose is straight out of the pump no metal bend. drag the hose out. Nothing oh the guy is serving hasn't looked at you. then he checks to see if your smoking or using the phone then authourises it. Happy days then you get fuel. I will have to take pics to show you but if they see me with a mobile phone they will tell me to put it away. yes with a reason which I wont go into right now. There are so many different issues with petrol stations in the uk alone.

Ever since I saw this pic, I have been filling my Vespa this way. I ensure the fuel nozzle is all the way in, like, all the way. Since that day, I've had zero overflow.

Thank you very much for the great feedbacks on how to avoid filling up your plastic bucket with excess gas with all your paperwork and other personal gear which I have fallen victim as well. lol

What I was doing is making sure if I fill up at a gas station I get some paper towels and put it around the openning to catch any spill. The gas cap trick is awesome I will definitely try it on my next fill. Thanks again




btw off topic yesterday I was filling up and saw a good looking blonde gal get in her brand new Audi and drive off with the fuel pump nozzle still lodge in her tank I yelled and tried to warn her blonde butt but she kept on going as if nothing happened, gas cap and all still open and the nozzle luckily came off and so I picked it up and replace it. That incident reminded me of that show Americas funny videos, I guess those new Audi's have air tight sound proof cabin. (:

I leave the key in the ignition turned to the on postion and watch the gauge, I usually put about 1.1 gal or less. No spillage or overfill.

Same here, keep rubber gloves in the bucket to save washing gas from your hands should you spill any, but I keep the key in and watch the gauge and pump gas slowly
