Modern Vespa

I feel lucky to be able to attend Amerivespa and see our local friends there. Great rides with absolutely beautiful scenery! We left the Santa Cruz event and rode over to the boardwalk, got lost, got some directions that went on the freeway 17. After riding East we got off on the Mount Hermon Rd back over to Hwy 9. After leaving Los Gatos and trucking the scooters back I thought about you guys ridding through that wind. Glad you guys made it back.

The ride home was NOT fun! High winds from Vasco Rd and all the way along the 160!

Spotted this Big Ruckus on the Sac City College campus. It looks like someone we know, but it's not. Look closely and you can tell the difference.

I tried my best to catch up to a red Elite 80 on T street today, but some dolt in front of me was fascinated by the trees or something and wouldn't go above 20mph and i couldn't get past 'em.

Oh well - i'm off to vegas for the week - there'll be no spottin' me

Saw Sonia on her Aurora Blue LX150 around 6:00 pm heading east on 30th St & K St. I was on my way to the Sac State book store to purchase a book for my daughter's summer class. Unfortunately the book store was closed.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but have any of you guys had to replace your tires yet? Did you use Roseville Vespa or Elk Grove Powersports, buy online and have a motorcycle mechanic replace them?

My rear needed replacing - i got a Zippy at A&S in Roseville. The tire was cheap - the change was not. They charged a full hour (which i think was $90? can't remember).

I have since picked up a tire changer from harbor freight and will give changing them myself a try. We'll see how that goes. For those who have just bought their tires, where have ya gotten 'em?

I am having The Scoot Shop at 16th and E Street do my Helix rear tire. (I blew it out on the way back from the Santa Cruz ride on the last day of AmeriVespa--on HWY 17!) They have standard costs and are doing my rear brake pads at the same time. They will not tally up separate labor costs but will combine the time to make it cheaper for me. Great folks and much cheaper than Roseville. Check their website sometime www.thescootshop.com.

There are actually two of them in town... well, either there are two of them, or two people drive around on the same one....

I saw a blue Yamaha Majesty headed north on Sunrise just before the river. I had not seen this rider before. And I did see the other blue Yamaha Majesty parked at work but I know this rider. So it wasn't the saame scoot.

I ordered Heidenau's from Moto Amore in San Jose and have been very happy with them. I did have A&S put them on at the time but since reading this thread, I am only now learning of other places to have scooter work done. I don't mind A&S since they have WiFi I can still get work done while they do the scooter work. I can also take breaks to oogle over the Ducati they have (tho, I prefer other Italian motorcycle manufacturers 8) ).

I can't contribute to the spotting tho - I still don't see any scooters on my regular routes.

Anybody and Everybody Avoid the onramp at Auburn and Biz 80. I was going to jump onto biz80 and then down 160 to catch up to the Scoot Shop ride on Sunday, and coming to a normal easy stop there I suddenly found myself on the ground sliding along somewhat under my scooter. I took a hard hit to my right elbow and knee and most of the skin is missing from a 2inch patch on my knee, and a 4 inch x1inch strip on my right forarm to elbow. The asphault there has been partially desolve by gas, and oil, and has a thick layer of oil on it. You can't tell by looking but the surface is just rocks and oil, so very slick and you can't really tell untill you fall, or like I did walk on it after. It was very slick to grippy shoes so I had no chance I was going to fall there no matter what. My Darling Plum took a bit of scraping to her nose, mirror, brake lever, and Leg shield trim. As she was laying on my foot, her right engine cowling does not seem to have come into contact with the road, so does not have any scratches that I can remember. Oh the right passenger peg got chewwed up. I just wanted to warn anyone in this area... stay clear till we get some good rains, or walk your scoot through that light.

Sorry to hear that Wes. You should also let Cal Trans know about it. In fact, I have a friend who works for the State and has told me that you can request a "Public Records Act Request" which would give you any information about that area IE: any complaints about it. Document the incident and note any witnesses you may have. It seems that insurance companies tend to total scooters that we may believe to have minimal damage. Just a thought for you if you feel the need to go that route.

Saw a Vespa in the light green (portofino?) traveling south on Sunrise at lunch today. Turned onto Folsom.

Sporting the NOGATT look of shorts, Hawaiian-type shirt and flip flops or boat shoes to match the half helmet and no gloves.

I looked on Cal Trans site, and ended up submitting a work request, but since the part I had trouble with was on Auburn Blvd, so not sure if the cal Trans will work it. I actually had trouble walking on the area I slid on, it was that slick. I know it is due to the build up of oil, due to the lack of rain...

I am feeling much better, as I can walk almost normal and my knee bends okay now. (had to hold it straight to keep the scabs from cracking) I can ride almost completely normal, Yes I got right back on and road that scoot home and have road her to and from work since, but have been taking it easy.

Sorry to hear that you were injured but glad to hear you are back in the saddle with relatively little injury.

I am not sure exactly where you are talking about in the Auburn to 80 series of intersections.

I guess I am silly and I need a map or more information. I ride through there occasionally and would prefer to avoid the whole injury/damage thing.

Is that the on ramp between Orange Grove Ave and Winding Way? The map may not be too clear for some to read. You were coming from Orange Grove?

I had turned onto Auburn from Madison, then I was going to turn right onto the onramp and get on Business 80 and take it down to 160 then swing by the Scoot shop to see if you guys had left yet... I would have been there about 10:30 to 10:45 or so.. So if I had missed ya, I was going to jump back on 160 and try to catch up to you guys.. but allas the best laid plans of mice and men......

Spotted a Silver Kymco scoot headed North on Sunrise around 07:15 this morning. Rider Waved!!! I waved back... All was cool, but no time for a picture.. 8)


Well I think it was a Kymco.. not sure as I have not put forth a great deal of effort to learn to recognize for sure those brands...

I think I know who this is. He lives in the the Roseville area and works down by me in Rancho. We had lunch together several months ago but I was out of the loop for a while there.

He rides down Sunrise every morning. Silver Kymco People 250 without a top case.

On Sunday morning 9:15 am after my wife and I got our '58 Dorsett El Dorado boat out from the water at Discovery Park, we saw a dude on a red Vespa go through the park. Noticed the black wheels so wasn't sure if it was a 250 or 300. He filled up at the Valero on Jibboon St. Nice ride.

Hi all, I just posted this up in the Sac Tag thread, but I thought I'd put it here too in the event that some people don't frequent the tag board as often....
"Hi all, just wanted to post up to let you all know to head down to The Scoot Shop in midtown.... 1619 E st.... They just started a new sort of scooter tag that I think we might all have some fun with. Basically, you get cards with your name on them, and whenever you see a scooter, you put one of the cards on it to "tag" it. If the person who's scooter gets tagged brings the card into the shop, they get a 10% dicount, and YOU get a ticket into the drawings.... the more people you tag, the more entries you get, and the drawings will be for good stuff like helmets, free oil changes, etc... Anyways, thought I'd pass that on to all of you so you could get in on a new game....I know Sic and Eduardo are already playing, so the competition is going to be stiff!! ) see you guys out there!"

Steve... if you saw my scoot at Chipotle... I need to have a conversation with Theron... my scoot is getting a new rear tire and they were closed today.. There is a gal in the RBSC with the same scoot but she has bird stickers and a scoot shop logo on the rear side panels.

A black vespa, looked like an LX. Birks, shorts, wifebeater and a full face helmet. The icing on the cake was the giant baby-poo-green manbag he had looped over his shoulder just floppin' away in the breeze. Nice.

Rode right by my house yesterday evening as I was taking the trash cans to the curb.
